I became a counsellor because I simply like people, and love making a connection. My whole life I had always tried to cognitively understand issues because that is how I believed we could make change. Through my own journey, I have come to realise that knowing is not the same as understanding. If we are to enact change in our own lives, we must be able to connect with ourselves. People are complicated, and our lives are complicated. I work with the whole of a person, and so my ethos is people, not problems. Furthermore, I am a qualified member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I love cats, the colour yellow, and the sound of running water. Just get in touch with me today to discuss your requirements and to schedule a consultation.
I will provide a space free of judgement where we can explore what makes you, you, and work out what changes you would like to make.
My role is to ensure you feel secure and comfortable. It can be very difficult to open up and reveal ourselves, and it is my responsibility to create a safe and confidential space. I am here for you; I work for you.
I am also here to provide support, accountability, information, and sometimes a little direction.
“To get something different, we must do something different.”
— Stephen Richards.
What is Counselling?
People come to counselling for many different reasons. Therapy is the process in which client and counsellor come together in order to shift what has become stuck.
Together, we will undertake the journey to explore and untangle the knots that are keeping you stuck.
Over the short term, my goal will be to establish a supportive working relationship, and to understand what your goals might be, if you have any, in order to help you achieve them.
Over the longer term, I will ask questions or nudge your thoughts, so we can examine your process, patterns and behaviour with gentle curiosity, and help you gain a sense of control and stability.
Anxiety is increasingly common in modern life. It has a healthy role to play – anxiety is a natural response to pressure or uncertainty. Yet, modern life is filled with pressures and uncertainties; and it can be hard to manage the feelings that come with it. There are many different kinds of anxiety. We will work together to find out what lies underneath your stress, and help you to reduce the cause and to manage its impact.
Depression
More and more people are being prescribed anti-depressants; over 8 million adults in the UK are receiving them from their doctors. Medication is just one tool in our box. We can work together to find out what is behind your depression, and while I know it is difficult, change comes from making changes in our lives. I will support you when it is tough, and cheer for you when you make progress.
